Hello! It’s great to meet you.

I came to Southern California from the mountains of Colorado to attend college over 25 years ago. I got my first position in the Clinical Research industry in 2001 as an entry-level Case Report Form designer. I had very little knowledge of or appreciation for the remarkable career I was embarking on.

Over the years, I have fostered a dual expertise in Clinical Data Management and CDMS platform design; from the ancient days of paper forms to the robust software solutions we work in today. This dual expertise has served my internal and Sponsor teams well, as I am able to expertly mobilize the technical components of a database and effectively marry it to the operational objectives of the team.

I look forward to meeting you and discussing how I may be able to partner with your organization to bring continued hope and help to patients around the globe.

  • Emily is a seasoned Clinical Research fellow, with years and years of professional evolution; starting in the early paper-based data collection design days where she regularly and painstakingly submitted elaborate printing specs to the CRF printer - where any error in the specs resulted in hours of rework and, always, insane site confusion. She has always been fastidious, but never to a fault. In our current age, with the focus on decentralization and automation wherever possible, we have all had to adapt. And Emily has proven time and time again how truly adaptable she is; how change is inevitable, but a commitment to quality and standards is always paramount.

Over the years, Emily has taught me that faster isn’t better - ever. Quality databases take time, and with Emily, you get a quality database each time. As committed as she is to efficiency, she is equally committed to quality. This is a delicate balance, and it requires strong communication skills, conviction and years of experience to maintain. Emily is confident in her craft, but remains committed to continued education and development. This only equips her to serve her clients, teams and the patients better! Working with Emily is a dream. I highly recommend her, both for who she is as an expert Database Builder/Programmer, but also for who she is as a person.

  • I am fortunate enough to have worked with Emily for over 15 years. We have worked on countless projects together during that time. This experience includes a vast array of therapeutic areas, across all phases of clinical trials, and within many different EDCs. She is my number 1 “go-to” for anything database related. While Emily functions primarily as a Database Builder/Programmer, and is the absolute best at what she does from a builder/programmer perspective, she also has an advanced data management skill set as well. Her knowledge of data management, married with her exceptional build/programming skills, makes her a true unicorn resource within our corner of this industry. Emily is highly capable, dependable and responsive. I believe the highest professional compliment we can receive is to be referred by our peers, those that are in the trenches with us. I and recommend Emily time and time again.

  • I have had the pleasure of working with Emily Wilhelms for over 10 years. During this time, Emily has proven to be an invaluable asset to any project that we have worked on together. Emily has consistently demonstrated her knowledge and expertise in clinical database management and build through successful migrations, complex data imports, commitment to best practices, and thorough audit-ready documentation. I have observed firsthand her comprehensive understanding of clinical databases and her commitment to quality work.

During the pandemic, Emily and I collaborated on two highly complex database rescue assignments. There was so much change in our industry during that time; so many moving parts related to technology. It was both invigorating to be supporting this movement through the CDMS, but also terrifying because of the many unknowns. Emily was as equally dedicated to accuracy as she was efficiency. In a normal climate, the complexities were many, but during the pandemic, they were exponentially magnified. I was thankful and relieved to have Emily as my partner through these database rescue efforts. We both learned a great deal, but I believe that, and happily attribute, the overall success of the projects was due to Emily’s leadership, expertise and confidence.

  • I am a junior-level Database Builder/Programmer, and am newer to the Clinical Research industry. I joined this industry with all of the programming language expertise, but had a very limited understanding of how that experience could be used in this space. Emily took me under her wing and taught me everything she knew in Medrio and Medidata Rave. I truly feel like I learned from the very best. I consider it an honor to have Emily as a mentor, supporting me as I continue to learn and grow. I admire Emily’s patience with her internal and external teams, and how she uses her 22+ years of industry experience to guide and advise. Emily is fast but efficient, patient yet decisive, and is 100% committed to her clients and their research.

“The technology you use impresses no one. The experience you create with it is everything.”
